The winery is located in the municipality of Montepulciano (province of Siena) in the Italian region of Tuscany. It was founded in 1961 by Dino Carletti through the purchase of 22 hectares of land. The name is a tribute to the Montepulciano-born humanist poet Angelo Ambrogini (1454-1494), known as "Il Poliziano". The winery has been run by Federico Carletti since 1978. The vineyards cover 120 hectares of vines in Montepulciano. They are planted with the red wine varieties Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile), Canaiolo Nero, Colorino, Mammolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The product range includes the DOC wines Cortona and Rosso di Montepulciano, the DOCG wines Morellino di Scansano and various Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, as well as some IGT. A second winery called "Lohsa" was founded in the Maremma area. Here, experiments are being carried out with the varieties Alicante Bouschet, Carignano and Petit Verdot, among others.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
