Pontiac

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Herbert x Worden(Concord - open-pollinated). Synonyms or breeding numbers are New York 4265 and NY 4265. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1903 by the breeder S. A. Beach at the Vine Breeding Institute of Cornell University in Geneva in the US state of New York. It is mainly used as table grape. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics). However, Pontiac (also Pontack) is also a synonym for the dyer grape Teinturier du Cher.
