The winery is located in the municipality of Marling (Marlengo), 352 metres above sea level above Merano in the Italian wine-growing area of South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige region). The first documented mention as "Poppenhof zu Merningen" dates back to 1285; the name probably goes back to a former owner "de Poppe". The family name "Menz" has been used since the beginning of the 18th century. The wine production on the farm from 1592 onwards is documented by the mention of a torggel. The house book of 1722 gives information about wine sales in barrels; for about 100 years wine has also been sold in bottles. The bottle label, which was created at that time and is still used today, is a symbol of this tradition. Today the winery is managed by Andreas (cellar master) and Elisabeth Menz.

The vineyards cover 4.5 hectares. They are planted with the white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc and Goldmuskateller, and with the red wine varieties Lagrein, Vernatsch and Merlot. The wines are vinified with the typicality of origin and grape variety. After controlled fermentation in steel tanks, the red wines mature in small and medium-sized wooden barrels. The product range includes various South Tyrolean (Alto Adige) DOC wines. The winery is a member of the Associations of Free Winegrowers South Tyrol.
