Pouget Michel Aimé

It was precisely on April 17, 1853 that the French agronomist Michel Aimé Pouget (1821-1875) was commissioned by the then Argentine President Domino Faustino Sarmiento (1811-1888) to introduce new suitable vines in Argentina. The aim of the client was to reposition viticulture. Pouget selected the French varieties Malbec(Cot) and Cabernet Sauvignon, among others, after analyses of the different conditions of soil and climate due to the size of this country. The Malbec in particular developed magnificently here and produced better wine qualities than in the country of origin. Also outside the country, especially in the USA, there were more and more enthusiasts. Today, it is in Argentina quantitatively at the top. In memory of this great success, the "Malbec World Day" is celebrated in Argentina every year since 2011 on April 17th.
