Pozsonyi

The white grape variety originates from Hungary; Pozsonyi is the Hungarian name for Bratislava (Pressburg) - the capital of Slovakia. Synonyms are Bratislavca, Bratislavka, Cetenyi Fehér, Cetenyi Kadarka, Fehér Dinka, Fehér Kadarka, Fehér Pozsoyi, Posonyi, Pozsonyi Fehér and White Pressburger. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. Despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities, however, it must not be confused with the Kövidinka variety. It was a crossing partner of the new varieties Gesztus, Irsai Olivér and Trilla. The late-ripening vine is sensitive to frost. It yields a fruity, low-alcohol white wine. The variety is cultivated in the Hungarian Balatonfüred-Csopak area and in Slovakia. In 2016, however, only ten hectares of vines were recorded in Hungary (Kym Anderson statistics).
