The "Wein und Obstkultur Preiß" farm is located in Theyern in the municipality of Nußdorf ob der Traisen in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Traisental. It has been family-owned since 1912, when it was still a mixed agricultural business. This has developed into a wine and fruit-growing business, which is now run by Friedrich Preiß. The vineyards cover seven hectares in the Brunndoppel, Hochschopf, In Mauern, In Satzen, Pletzengraben and Zwischen den Gräben vineyards. The white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (more than 50%), Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gelber Muskateller, Frühroter Veltliner, Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau) and Neuburger, as well as Zweigelt are cultivated.
The vineyards are cultivated in a near-natural way. Quality criteria are foliage care with a high foliage wall, yield reduction and selective hand harvesting. Vinification is carried out with the aim of producing fruity wines with a strong emphasis on the terroir. After gentle crushing and, depending on the variety, different maceration times, a gentle pressing and a slow, temperature-controlled, aroma-preserving fermentation take place mainly in stainless steel tanks. Depending on the wine type and variety, the wine is stored on the fine le es. Premium wines include various Traisental DAC (Grüner Veltliner, Riesling) and Chardonnay from the wood. Fruit brandies and Marc (marc brandy) are also produced. The winery is a member of the Traisentaler Weingärtner association.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
