Well-known wine-growing community in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region Carnuntum on the border to northern Burgenland. Petronell-Carnuntum with the world-famous excavations from the Roman period is in the immediate vicinity to the northwest. The sunny southern slopes of the Spitzerberg south of Hainburg form a small island of red wine. Around 30% of the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt are planted on the approximately 200 hectares of vineyards. When it comes to white wines, Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling and Pinot Blanc are dominant. The cellars are a novelty because they were not dug deep, but are grass-covered hills covered with earth.
