Prensal

The white grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Moll, Moll Binisalem, Moll Encin, Pansal Blanco, Pensal, Pensal Blanco, Penzal Blanco, Premsal (second main name), Premsal Blanco, Premsal Blanca, Prensal, Prensal Blanc and Prensal Blanco. Despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the Afus Ali or Xarello (Premsal Blanca) varieties. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2018, it is a direct descendant of the Hebén variety; however, the second parent is unknown. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). The medium-maturing, high-yielding vine is susceptible to powdery mildew. It produces fine-acidic, fruity white wines that are mostly used as blends. The variety is permitted on the Balearic Islands in the DO area of Binissalem on the main island of Mallorca. In 2016, 129 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).
