The white grape variety is a new breeding between (Silvaner x Riesling) x (Riesling x Silvaner). Synonyms or breeding numbers are Geisenheim 341-58 and Precocisima. The cross was made in 1952 by Dr. Helmut Becker (1927-1990) at the Research Institute Geisenheim (Rheingau). Plant variety protection was granted in 1997. The late-maturing, frost-hardy vine is resistant to both types of powdery mildew, which is why it is considered a PIWI variety, but susceptible to botrytis. It yields fruity, racy wines that are well suited as base wines for sparkling wines. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
