The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Senftenberg near Krems in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Kremstal. The name Proidl in Senftenberg was first mentioned in a document in 1650. Today, Franz and Andrea Proidl are the ninth generation of the family to run the business. With their children Patrick and Raphaela Proidl, the tenth generation is now working in the business. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines in the Ehrenfels vineyard (the solely owned vineyard, which had lain fallow for decades, was recultivated and replanted over many years), Hochäcker, Pellingen, Pfeningberg and Rameln with mostly steeply terraced slopes. The white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (with over 50% the leading variety), Riesling, Gelber Muskateller and Chardonnay are cultivated to 90%, and the red wine varieties Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to 10%.

The declared aim is to produce wines with ageing potential, which begins with late selective hand-picking. During fermentation, the use of pure yeasts is avoided wherever possible. Spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts takes place with slow fermentation. At single vineyards this takes three to ten months. The premium wines include various Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner Kremstal DAC or Kremstal DAC Reserve and Blauer Zweigelt, as well as a Riesling labelled "Generation X". In years with favourable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslese wines are also produced. Fine brandies are also distilled. Around 50,000 bottles of wine are produced each year. The winery is a member of the Kremstaler Convent winegrowers' association and has been a member of Traditionsweingüter Österreich since the 2013 vintage.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
