Prussia

Riede (also Preussen) in the Austrian wine-growing region Wien 19th district Döbling in the cadastral municipality Nußdorf. It belongs to the Großlage Nußberg. The vineyard was classified by the WV WienWein as 1 ÖTW (Erste Lage of the Traditional Wine Estates of Austria). The vineyard, which was first mentioned in documents as early as the 11th century, is named after the royal councillor Heinrich Preussel, who owned the Urfar of Nussdorf as a fief from 1277 to 1288. The Old High German "urfar" or "urvär" was a landing place for ships and boats. It also denotes the ferry right for a place on the banks of the Danube where one lands or crosses. The south-facing vineyards with slopes of 3 to 21 degrees at an altitude of 211 to 325 metres above sea level cover 12 hectares of vines. The calcareous sandstone with high quartz content reaches just to the surface and is partly interspersed with marine sediments. The white wine varieties Riesling and Pinot Blanc are mainly cultivated here, as well as other varieties than Wiener Gemischter Satz. The Christ Rainer, Cobenzl, Fuhrgassl-Huber, Mayer am Pfarrplatz, Mayer Vitikultur, Rotes Haus, Wieninger and Zahel wineries, for example, have shares in the vineyard.
