This red grape variety is a new cross between Aramon Noir x Teinturier du Cher. The crossing took place in 1824 (or 1829) in Mauguio near Montpellier by the breeder Louis Bouschet de Bernard. Synonyms are Aramon Teinturier, Bouschet, Bouschet de Bernard, Bouschet Petit, Colorino di Lucca, Le Bouschet, Négron de Aldán, Nero di Spagna, Petit Bouchet, Petit Bouse, Pti Bushe, Teinturier Bouschet, Tintinha and Tintorera.
