Purcsin

The red grape variety originates from Hungary. Over 40 synonyms indicate a great age, these include Blue Roman, Fekete Purcsin, Gerzset, Kék Dinka, Kék Purcsin, Kiràlyédes (King Sweet), Kisfekete (Little Black), Kökenyszölö (Sloe Grape), Partinka, Pelyhes, Porcsin, Porzhin, Prorok, Purchinok, Purcseny, Purcsin Dinka, Roman, Redwood Roman, Sloe Grape, Black Roman, Sweet Roman, Uva Stiptica and Whitewood Roman. A direct descendant is the variety Sremska Zelenika. However, the parentage is unknown. However, there are speculations that it could be identical or at least related to the French variety César (with synonym Römer). It is also suitable as table grape. The vine was widespread at Lake Balaton (Plattensee) and in the Tokaj region. However, the population has shrunk extremely and new plantings are no longer permitted. In 2016, only 0.3 hectares were designated (Kym Anderson).
