PVDC

Abbreviation for polyvinylidene chloride, a plastic based on carbon. PVDC has been used in the packaging industry for a number of decades for numerous foods and pharmaceuticals to protect them from spoilage. Positive properties are the food safety and the low permeability to oxygen. It is considered the best closure material with absolute tightness and chemical inertness (inability to react). In the wine industry, PVDC films are also used for capsules (Cover over natural cork), as well as with alternative wine bottle closures such as screw cap and Capsules used.
