Abbreviation for "quality wine (or quality sparkling wine) of certain growing areas" for a source-controlled wine or sparkling wine of the highest quality level. The EU wine market regulations that have been in force since 2009 have introduced new quality levels and wine names (see under quality system ). The traditional name QbA is still in Germany and South-Tirol allowed. However, there is an increasing distance from using it and also in German wine law one only speaks of quality wine or quality sparkling wine. In Austria on the other hand, QbA was never used.
