Quarter (drinking glass)

A term used especially in Austria (Wien) (dialectally "Vierterl") for a wine glass with a capacity of 0.25 litres. The classic quarter glass at the Heuriger has no stem but a handle and is filled to the top. In Germany (e.g. Baden-Württemberg), the term "Viertele" is commonly used. The next smallest drinking glass is an eighth (dialectally "Achterl") with 0.125 litres. See also Schoppen and Wine vessels.
