Quebranta

The red grape variety (also Quebranta Peruana) originates from Peru. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2017, it is a presumably natural cross between Mission (Listán Prieto) x Negra Mole (Negramoll). However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular genetics). It is mainly used there as a base wine for the production of the spirit Pisco(national drink in Chile and Peru). However, the variety is also used as a wine grape for simple red and rosé wines and as table grape. In 2016, an area under cultivation of 330 hectares was reported in Peru (Kym Anderson statistics). There are also small populations in Argentina and Brazil.
