Quentão

Portuguese name for mulled wine; look there.

The name given to a heated alcoholic beverage made from spices and sweeteners, which is traditionally served and drunk in the Christmas season, especially in northern countries, during the Advent season. Such spiced wines were already very popular in the early Middle Ages, because with the spices one could at that time frequently occurring wine faults cover well, or so could a more or less spoiled wine still be made edible.
