Portuguese name for a special elongated boat type with which the base wines for the port wine from the Douro Valley to the postage - Suburbs of Vila Nova de Gaia are or have been transported. Most of the time, these boats only drifted downstream with the current of the river, and sailing was rather rare. Most of the time, the boats were jetted upriver. Today they have almost no meaning anymore and serve mainly tourist purposes. They are in front of the Lodges (Warehouses) of the port wineries or take part in historical regattas.
