The red grape variety (also Elmer Swenson 517) is a very complex interspecific new breed between Elmer Swenson 80 ( Minnesota 78 x Kendaia) x Villard Blanc, They are genes from Vitis berlandieri. Vitis labrusca. Vitis riparia. Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera contain. The crossing of the hybrid was done by the American breeder Elmer Swenson (1913-2004) near Osceola, Wisconsin. The variety is in Canada (Quebec), and grown in the US Midwest. No stocks were recorded in 2010 (Kym Anderson ).
