Ralais

Situated in the municipality of Wösendorf (Weißenkirchen) in the Lower Austrian wine growing region Wachau on the hills of the Danube valley. Although it is a sub-reed of the Hochrain, the barren paragneiss weathered soils form a strong contrast to the deeper soils, mostly loess influenced, which are predominant in the Hochrain. The steeply terraced vineyards, facing south to east, with up to 74% slope inclination, cover nine hectares of vineyards at an altitude of 254 to 377 metres above sea level. Due to the steepness of the upper area, the weathering material is constantly subject to erosion. Riesling is mainly cultivated here. The Bayer Erich, Lengsteiner, Schrey Rudolf and Schwaiger wineries, for example, have shares in the reed.
