The red variety comes from Portugal, Synonyms are Ramisco de Colares, Ramisco nos Açores and Ramisco Tinto. According to done in 2007 DNA analysis it is genetically closely related to the two varieties Sercial and Trincadeira Preta, The late-ripening vine has particularly thick berry skins. It brings extremely dark colored, acid and tannin rich red wines earthy Aromas of mushrooms and cedar wood, as well as long storage potential. The variety is exclusively in the DOC area Colares cultivated on the Atlantic coast.
