The red grape variety originates from Portugal. Synonyms are Ramisco Açores, Ramisco de Colares, Ramisco nos Açores and Ramisco Tinto. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2015, it is a parent of the Concieira variety. However, this is based on only 21 DNA marhters (see Molecular genetics for more information). There is also a genetically close relationship with the Sercial and Trincadeira Preta varieties. However, the parentage (parentage) is unknown. The late ripening vine has particularly thick berry skins. It yields extremely dark-colored, acid- and tannin-rich red wines with earthy aromas of mushrooms and cedar wood, as well as storage potential. The variety is cultivated in the Colares DOC area on the Atlantic coast. A special feature is that the vineyards have been spared from phylloxera due to the deep sandy soil there and therefore the variety ungrafted is cultivated. In 2016, 33 hectares of vineyards were designated, with an increasing trend (Kym Anderson).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
