The winery is located in the municipality of La Morra in the Italian region of Piedmont. The founder Renato Ratti (1934-1988), after studying oenology in Alba, went to Brazil where he worked in the production of sparkling wine and Cinzano. In 1965, he returned to his homeland and bought vineyards in the Barolo area. As president of the Consorzio del Barolo, he contributed significantly to the renewal of winemaking techniques in the Barolo area. He also wrote several books on the wines of Piedmont. Among his best-known works are "Innovation" and "Barolo il Grande". His son wrote the book "Nebbiolo Vitigno di Terroir". In 1969, his nephew Massimo Martinelli joined the company. Under his responsibility, barrel ageing was greatly shortened and bottle ageing was pushed. Renato Ratti promoted the idea of terroir and successfully sought recognition for the individual vineyards in the Langhe hills. After his early death, the winery has been run by his son Pietro Ratti since 1988. In 2002, a new winery was built. The vineyards cover 30 hectares. The product range includes various Barolo (e.g. Conca Marcenasco, Marcenasco, Rocche Marcenasco), Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d' Alba, Monferrato and Nebbiolo d'Alba.
