rectification

Term (also countercurrent distillation) for a thermal separation process, which extends the distillation or represents a series connection of many distillation steps. This means that a system can be operated continuously. The separation effect is many times higher than that of distillation because the countercurrent steam is in contact with the liquid several times in succession.
