Red and white Veltliner

The white grape variety comes from Austria. She is one of the big ones Veltliner Group, Synonyms grouped by country are Valtelin Rouge Blanc ( France ); Blasses Veltliner, Ranfolina, Rothweisser Veltliner, Red-White, Silver-White, Silver-white Veltliner (sometimes considered as a separate strain), Todträger, Wachtler ( Austria ); Veltlínske Červenobiele ( Slovenia ); Veltlínské Červenobílé ( Czech Republic ). It is probably a natural cross between Red Veltliner x Heunisch ( Gouais blanc ). The name derives from the fact that the berries turn red on the side facing the sun, but remain green in the shade. In the 1920s, she was one of the main varieties in Lower Austria, There are still small stocks there. In 2010, however, no stocks were reported (Statistics Kym Anderson ).
