Red and white Veltliner

The white grape variety comes from Austria. It is one of the big ones Veltliner Group, Synonyms grouped by country are Valtelin Rouge Blanc ( France ); Pale Veltliner, red-white Veltliner, red-white, silver-white, Silver-white Veltliner (is sometimes also considered an independent variety), death bearer, quail ( Austria ); Červeno Biely Muskatel, Veltlínske Červenobiele ( Slovenia ); Veltlínské Červenobílé ( Czech Republic ). It is a color mutation of Red Veltliner, The variety was used in the new varieties devín and Hetera used. The name derives from the fact that the berries turn red on the side facing the sun, but remain green in the shade. In the 1920s it was one of the main varieties in Lower Austria, There are still small stocks there. In 2010, however, no stocks were shown (Kym Anderson ).
