The red grape variety originates from Italy (South Tyrol). Synonyms are Calebstraube, Roter Urben, Rotwelscher, Süßwälscher, Urbanitraube and Urban Crveni. It is a member of the heterogeneous name group Schiava. Due to similar synonyms or morphological similarities, the variety must not be confused with the genetically related variety Roter Trollinger (mutation of Schiava Grossa). It is a colour mutation of the variety Schiava Gentile (Blue Urban). It is used as a winepress and table grape. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
