Regionality

A term coined in the New World, especially in Australia and California, which describes the dependence of the distinctive characteristics of a wine on the climatic and soil-specific location of a vineyard. It is, however, less geographically defined than the French appellation and also not to be understood as comprehensively as terroir. See also under AVA and Generic.
