Description for a dry wine with a pronounced acidity in the context of a wine evaluation or wine address. It is derived from the Middle High German "roesche" (rough, coarse). This is by no means to be understood negatively, but perhaps not to everyone's taste. Related terms, which also have a positive connotation, are fine-sour, fresh, lively, nervy, racy, tangy and steely. An excessively high or inharmonious proportion is described with the negative terms aggressive, acetic, edgy, sour and sharp. See also under sour wine.
