The winery is located in the municipality of Guntersblum (Nierstein area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. The traditional winery was founded in 1702 by Johann Heinrich Janß and his wife Anna. Since 2003, it has been run by Wolfgang and Petra Janß. The estate tavern "Reblausstube" is attached. The vineyards cover 15.5 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Pettenthal (Nierstein), as well as Eiserne Hand, Himmelthal, Kreuzkapelle, St. Julianenbrunnen and Steinberg (Guntersblum). They are 70% planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Grüner Veltliner and Würzer, and 30% with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Portugieser, St. Laurent and Schwarzriesling. The vineyards are cultivated according to the latest ecological findings with natural fertilisation. In order to sustainably promote soil life, certain types of cereals and oil radish are sown and later ploughed under again. The physiologically ripe, healthy grapes are harvested very late by hand. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with the vineyard's own yeasts. The wines are matured in a gentle manner according to the varietal characteristics and bottled only after a long period of maturation.
