Term for a mixture of grape varieties or a cuvée that is typical for the French regions of Rhône and Languedoc-Roussillon. For red wines, these are the varieties Syrah, Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre (Monastrell), Cinsaut, Carignan Noir (Mazuelo) and others. In rosé wines, the Cinsaut variety is very often the main component. For white wines, the varieties are Grenache Blanc (Garnacha Blanca), Marsanne, Rolle (Vermentino), Roussanne, Viognier and others.
However, the number and proportion of grape varieties varies considerably from appellation to appellation. A group of winegrowers in California also prefers to use these grape varieties and is therefore called Rhône Rangers. Another typical blend of grape varieties in France is the well-known Bordeaux blend.
