The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Petit Ribier, Petit Rouvier, Reviere d'Anjou, Ribier, Ribiere, Rivier and Riviere. It should not be confused with the variety Alphonse Lavallée (with synonym Ribier). According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Gouais Blanc x unknown variety. However, this is based on bur 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). It is used as a grape variety and table grape. The variety used to be quite common in the Rhône. Today, it is only cultivated in small quantities in the Département Ardèche. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
