Ribol

The red grape variety is a new breeding between Olivette Blanche x Alphonse Lavallée, which was confirmed by DNA analyses carried out in 2013. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). The cross was made in 1958 in France by the ampelographer Paul Truel (1924-2014) on behalf of INRA in Montpellier. The late-maturing vine is mainly used as table grape. It is grown in the departments of Tarn-et-Garonne and Vaucluse. In 2016, 141 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
