Rimava

The red grape variety (also Caab 3/12) is a new variety between Castets x Abouriou. It was crossed in Slovakia in 1976 by the breeder Dorota Pospíšilová. The plant variety protection was granted in 2011. Incidentally, the Hron, Nitranka and Váh varieties were created with the same parents. The medium to late ripening vine is sensitive to winter frost and drought, but resistant to spring frost and botrytis. It yields dark-coloured, full-bodied red wines with ageing potential similar to Cabernet Sauvignon. The variety is cultivated in the southwest of Slovakia. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (statistics Kym Anderson).
