The winery is located in the municipality of Spitz a. d. Donau in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. The family has been growing grapes here for over 100 years. The grandfather of the current owner was a co-founder of the winegrowers' cooperative Freie Weingärtner Wachau; today's Domäne Wachau. In 1982, the wine was bottled for the first time. After the viticulture school in Krems and practical training at the Emmerich Knoll winery, the business is run by Friedrich Rixinger jr. The vineyards cover 6.5 hectares in the Baumgartenthal, Kalkofen, Singerriedel, Tannen and Zornberg vineyards. They are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Neuburger. Some of the vines are very old. The near-natural cultivation is based on the rules of organic viticulture. This includes cover crop, the use of natural fertiliser, the renunciation of insecticides and instead the confusion method using pheromones.

In the cellar, non-invasive rules apply with as little intervention as possible. After a short maceration period of a maximum of one day, the grapes are gently pressed whole. Fermentation takes place without temperature control. Afterwards, the wines are stored in large wooden barrels or in stainless steel on the fine lees for a few months. Clarification is done by natural settling (degumming); fining is not used. Stabilisation takes place with as little use of sulphur as possible. The product range includes ten different wines. These include the regional brands Federspiel, Steinfeder and Smaragd according to the guidelines of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus association. Fine brandies and apricot nectar are also produced.
