Rockford

The "Rockford Winery" is located in Tanunda in the Australian Barossa Valley (South Australia). The owner Robert O'Callaghan (*1947) learned the craft of a winemaker from 1965 onwards from Seppelt (Rutherglen). In 1971 he bought a small estate with five hectares of land in the community of Krondorf in the heart of the Barossa Valley, but it was not until 1984 that he started to grow wine. His own vineyards cover only two hectares. Every year, 500 tons of grapes are purchased from 30 private winemaking families in the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. The main varieties are Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mataro (Mourvèdre), Riesling, Sémillon, Shiraz and White Frontignac (Muscat Blanc). These are used to produce wines in the traditional style. These are for example Basket Press Shiraz, Rifle Range Cabernet Sauvignon, Black Shiraz (Sparkling), Hand Picked Eden Valley Riesling and Moppa Springs (Grenache, Mataro, Shiraz).
