The estate is located in the municipality of Riol (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region Moselle
, It is run by winemaker Franz-Peter Schmitz. The vineyards cover eight hectares of vineyards in the layers Maximiner Herrenberg
(Longuich), the eponymous Römerberg (Riol), as well as Blattenberg and Zellerberg (Mehring). They are planted with the two white varieties Riesling and Müller-Thurgau, as well as the two red varieties Frühburgunder and Pinot Noir. It is practiced near-natural viticulture. While the dry to fruit sweet Rieslings are matured in stainless steel, mature the red wines and noble sweet Rieslings in large oak barrels and some in oak barrels. Bottle-fermented sects and brandies are also produced.
