Roi des Noirs

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Seibel 29 (Munson x unknown Vinifera) x Danugue. Synonyms are Bertille Seyve 4643, Seibel 4643, Feketek Kiralya, Le Sequanais and Pannonhalmi Kék. Genes of Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was crossed at the beginning of the 20th century by the breeder Albert Seibel (1844-1936). It was a crossing partner in the new variety Rubilande. The vine is resistant to downy mildew, but susceptible to powdery mildew and botrytis. Due to its early ripening, it is suitable for cool areas. The deep red wine has a distinctive foxy (strawberry tone). At the end of the 1950s, it still occupied 12,000 hectares in central France, Loire and Savoy. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported (Kym Anderson).
