Rossese

Italian name or component of name or synonyms for white and red grape varieties, some of which are not related to each other. Already in the 15th century excellent wines were produced from a variety Rossese Bianco or Roxeise, as in 1596 the famous naturalist Andrea Bacci (1524-1600) reported. He attributed to the Ligurian wines even "magical powers". The name is probably derived from the intense berry colors. There are at least seven varieties in Liguria and Piedmont :
