Rossese di Campochiesa

The red grape variety originates from Italy. The Rossese di Dolceacqua variety (synonymous with the French Tibouren variety), which is also cultivated in Liguria, was long thought to be identical. However, this was disproved by DNA analyses carried out in 2009 (the two varieties are still frequently confused). The five white Rossese varieties are not colour mutations. The vine yields red wines with aromas of strawberries and raspberries for rather quick enjoyment. It is mainly grown around the eponymous municipality of Campochiesa di Albenga in the province of Savona in Liguria. In Italy, an area under cultivation of 164 hectares was recorded under the name Rossese in 2016, with a downward trend. However, it is not clear which variety or varieties are actually involved (Kym Anderson).
