Rossignola

The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Grapello, Gropello, Pulcella, Pulicella, Rossetta, Rossetta de Lago, Rossetta di Montagna, Rossignola della Valle, Rossignola Valle Pulicella, Rossignola Montagna, Rossignola Veronese, Rossiola, Rossola and Rusciola. It must not be confused with the Rosetta di Montagna or Rossola Nera varieties, despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. The late-ripening vine is susceptible to both powdery mildew, botrytis, esca and grape rot. It produces red wines with high acidity and tannins. The variety was first mentioned in 1818 in the province of Verona in Veneto. There it is permitted in the DOC/DOCG wines Bardolino, Breganze, Valdadige and Valpolicella. In 2016, 49 hectares of vines were reported with a decreasing trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
