Rosso di Montalcino

DOC area for red wine in the Italian region of Tuscany. The vineyards cover about 460 hectares of vineyards in the municipality of Montalcino in the province of Siena. The area is identical to the famous DOCG wine Brunello di Montalcino, but the production conditions are much less restrictive. It is made from 100% pure Sangiovese clone Brunello. The alcohol content must be at least 12% vol. It can be marketed from 1 September of the year following the harvest. The fruity red wine, which can be drunk much earlier, is therefore called "young Brunello"If the grapes come from classified vineyards, the label may indicate Vigna followed by the name of the vineyard.
