The red grape variety comes from Italy, Synonyms are Rossera, Rossola, Rossoladure and Rossolo. Despite apparently suggesting synonyms or similarities, it must not be used with the varieties Monastrell (with the synonym Rossola Nera), Rossara Trentina. Rossignola or Rossolino Nero be confused. According to 2004 DNA analysis is a direct descendant of Nebbiolo, as well as a parent of Rossolino Nero. The late ripening vine is susceptible to real ones mildew and Botrytis but resistant to spring frosts. The variety is grown in the Valtellina Valley Lombardy cultivated where it is often blended with Nebbiolo. The acreage in 2010 was 86 hectares with a downward trend (Kym Anderson ).
