rotgut

Derogatory term (Latin fusilis = liquid) for inferior alcoholic beverages such as wine and brandy. This is especially true for spirits in an improper way, such as for too long distillation were made with primitive devices. It derives from the fusel oils which are often found in greater quantities in low-grade alcoholic beverages and are extremely toxic in extreme cases. Colloquially, the term "fuel" is used for a liquor brandy.
