This training system (also known as RT2T, Twin Two Tier Trellis) belongs to the group of trellis training systems. It was developed in 1983 by the Australian viticulturalist Dr. Richard E. Smart (*1945) in New Zealand at the Ruakura research station, which gave it its name. Four foliage walls are formed on a very elaborate support framework. The system is suitable for particularly vigorous vines and also requires a special grape harvesting machine. There are different variants, the picture shows one of them. In Europe it has no significance. See also a list of all systems at vine training.
