The origin of this historic winery in Rutherford, California Napa Valley was founded in 1879 when Finnish Captain Gustave Niebaum (1842-1908) founded the "Inglenook Winery" (Inglenook). He had a beautiful castle built in Victorian style. After decommissioning during the American prohibition (1920-1933) the company was reactivated by the widow Suzanne Niebaum. In 1939 the Anwqesen was taken over by the founder-grandnephew John Daniel, whose Cabernet Sauvignon vintage 1940 was apostrophized as at that time best of California. In 1975, the US director Francis Ford Coppola and his wife Eleanor with the considerable profit from his multi-part cult film "The Godfather" about 600 acres of land acquired. The brand name "Inglenook", however, the winery and 40 hectares of vineyards were bought by the beverage company Heublein, the mass wines produced under this label.
