Rubinovy Magaracha

The red grape variety is a new cross between Cabernet Sauvignon x Saperavi (which was confirmed according to DNA analyses carried out in 2010). Synonyms are Crossing 56, Magarach 56, Magaracha Rubinovyi, Magaracha Ruby, Magaratsch Rubinovy, Magaratsch Ruby, Rubinovi Magaraca, Rubinovyi Magaracha, Ruby Magaracha. The cross was made in 1928 by N. Paponov, V. Zotov, P. Tsarev and P. Golodriga at the Magarach Viticultural Institute in the Crimea (Ukraine). Plant variety protection was granted in 1969. It was a crossing partner in the new varieties Antey Magarachsky and Rubin Golodrigi. The late-maturing, high-yielding vine is resistant to frost and drought. It produces fruity, colourful red wines and is also used for table grapes and grape juice. The variety is cultivated in Ukraine, Kazakhstan (0.2 ha) and Uzbekistan. In 2016, however, only the population in Kazakhstan was reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
