The grape variety is a new breed between Emperor x Sultana Moscata ( Muscat d'Alexandrie x Sultana ). Synonyms are King Rubi, King's Ruby, Moscatel de Malaga and Rubi Sidles. The crossing took place in 1939 at the University of California by Dr. Harold P. Olmo (1909-2006). The red berry, seedless Variety is considered table grape used. New breeding is also with the same parents Emerald Seedless emerged.
