The grape variety is a new breed between Emperor x Sultana Moscata ( Muscat d'Alexandrie x Sultana ). Synonyms are King Rubi, King's Ruby, Moscatel de Malaga and Rubi Sidles. The crossing took place in 1939 at the University of California by Dr. med. Harold P. Olmo (1909-2006). The red-berry, seedless Variety is called table grape used. With the same parents is also the new breed Emerald Seedless emerged.
