Ruitersvlei

The "Ruitersvlei Wines" winery is located in the South African Paarl wine district and was founded in 1862 by Johannes Albertus Faure. Today the estate is run by the daughters Nicolette and Belinda of the current owner John A. Faure. Since 1995, they have successfully improved the quality of Ruitersvlei wines with the cellar master Hein Hesebeck, which has been honoured with many awards and gold and silver medals. The vineyards cover 280 hectares. They are planted with the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc (Steen), Cinsaut, Merlot, Pinotage, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz, which have been specially selected for the different soil types and microclimates of the different altitudes. Premium wines include the pure varietal wines Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Shiraz. Around 500,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
