The winery is located in the municipality of Hammelburg (Maindreieck area) in the German wine-growing region of
Franconia. It is located between two towers of the former town wall. A hedge inn is attached. The Ruppert family has been resident in Hammelburg for centuries and has been involved in agriculture, viticulture and fruit growing. The foundation for today's farm was laid by Alfons Ruppert (1913-1998). Today, it is run as a family business by mother Christiana and her three children Karin, as well as Stefan and Matthias after their training as viticultural technicians and practical experience with winegrowers in the region, Austria, Portugal, New Zealand and Australia. An excerpt from the farm philosophy:
"With wine knowledge, commitment and love for the job, our trained eye recognises the needs of the vines and is able to fulfil them in a targeted manner".
The vineyards cover 7.5 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites
Heroldsberg and
Trautlestal (Hammelburg). They are planted with the white wine varieties Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Bacchus, Ortega, Optima and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Domina and Portugieser. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way with yield-reducing, quality-enhancing measures. The wines are matured gently. The quality pyramid comprises the levels Great Wines (Spätlese to Trockenbeerenauslese), Classic Franconia (cabinet wines in
Bocksbeutel), Young Franconia (Rotling, Rosé, light Riesling, Cuvées) and Basic Franconia (estate wines in litre bottles). Fine spirits (yeast, wine, fruit) and liqueurs are also produced. The winery is a member of the Generation Riesling association.
