Saarsteiner Castle

Single location in the municipality of Serrig (Saar area) in the German growing region Moselle, In 1828, the Oberförster Ebventure had a slope of the Kammerforst on the right bank of the Saar cleared, then known as Priommenberg, and planted it as a vineyard. The Hansen family from Trier later acquired the property and founded a winery. In 1956 the property was sold to Dieter Ebert. The vineyard, which to a small extent faces west and for the most part in a cone-shaped vault facing south-southeast, is 200 to 250 meters above sea level with a slope of 30 to 60% and comprises almost nine hectares of vineyards. The part planted with genuine Rieslings in 1943 is considered the best plot. The floor consists of greywacke, blue-colored Devonian slate weathering and brown earth with some sloping clay and reddish inclusions in the lower area. Especially in the lower part, the autumn mist rising from the Saar promotes the Botrytis and with it the production of noble sweet wines. Riesling is mainly cultivated here. The location is owned by Saarstein Castle,
